  • Instructional Systems Design (ISD) is a first course on the ADDIE model using the Dick & Carey schema. We examine strategies, trends, issues and research findings related to the design and development of standards-based instructional systems and programs. We focus on both behavioral and cognitive strategies of instructional design including the theory and research background related to each approach. Students will apply these strategies in assessment of needs, analysis, design, development, management and evaluation of an instructional system or program. The course requires development of an instructional program or unit for a teaching or training application.

  • New Technologies for Learning (NTFL), is an introductory instructional technology course covering social constructionist pedagogy using the learning objects model. We cover a balance of conceptual and skills components in satisfaction of the state of Connecticut's statutory requirements for K-12 teachers.

New to this semester's rendition of the course is an emphasis on entrepreneurship, where we will explore alternative careers in the education market-space.

The course will be conducted entirely online as a practomime, using a combination of web-based resources, social media and video conferencing sessions.

All assignments must be submitted by midnight December 14, 2012.

I am grading current work as it is submitted. If you were late getting an assignment in, I'll mop it up by Saturdayday afternoon.

  • Networks and Distributed Learning Systems (NDLS) provides a introduction to distributed learning, aka distance education, distance learning, open learning and more recently, flexible learning. We will explore the conceptual frameworks, implementations, international/multi-cultural considerations and practice of distributed learning systems. We will also explore the use of contemporary segmented design strategies in the implementation of a networked laboratory for teaching or training applications. The culminating projects will be implementation of a learning management system (LMS) that serves the pedagogical needs of course participants and a segmented network design.
